Summer Bucket List: Week One
Happy Summer!!! These days are my favorite days. The hours are long and sunny and water-splashed, and the chore chart is running full-force. However, amid the unicorns and rainbows that is summer, there is also no shortage of fighting and muttering of that dirty five-letter word (B-O-R-E-D) happening in this household. To combat this, from now through August, I am committing to check three things off our family summer bucket list each week. Just a couple little somethings for us to look forward to (or more appropriately, something for me to hang over the children's head...also known as my favorite five-letter word, B-R-I-B-E). So without further adieu:
1. Water Fight On Sunday night I do a quick check of the weather, locate the warmest, sunniest day of the week, and declare that our day of water war. Everyone gets suited up in their swimwear, then we amass all the water fighting weapons into a giant pile in the middle of the yard. We fill two giant buckets with water to act as refill stations. Sometimes we make a home base. Other times we add some capture the flag action. Often we invite the neighbors. Any way you slice it, it's a super simple activity requiring very little planning, and the kids love it. Or maybe they just love soaking me. Regardless, it's the happiest hour of the day. It's happening tomorrow.
2. Make Popsicles Artsy-Fartsy Mama posted a round-up of 36 Different Homemade Popsicle Recipes. And they all look gooooood. The kids picked the Peaches and Cream popsicle to try first. There may have been just a teensy bit of coaxing from their mother. But, I mean, it just sounds so good. I grabbed some dixie cups and popsicle sticks at Target, and now we are all set to create our frozen confections.
3. Sidewalk Chalk I snatched up sidewalk chalk in bulk while at Target. There is just something so satisfying about a driveway covered in colored scribbles. I'm thinking incorporating some of these amazing ideas from Huffington Post is a must. My instagram feed will have never been cooler. **How will you be spending summer this week?**
